ABOUT US

Kim D. Gemeinhardt, DVM

Dr. Gemeinhardt graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993 and opened her own veterinary practice in an area of North Carolina she had come to know and love while visiting family. Years later, Latitude 36 Mobile Veterinary Services is one of the few large animal practices in the region that caters to horses, cattle, small ruminants (sheep, goats), and camelids (llamas, alpacas) with equal dedication and expertise.

Kim's love of horses and other animals is lifelong, but it took her a while to turn it into a veterinary career. She had ridden and trained show hunters and jumpers for many years, but along the way she must have been innoculated with the veterinary bug, because after working in various other fields for 15 years or so, she went back to college, her sights set on vet school.

As Kim puts it, "I was always on my way to vet school; I simply took the scenic route."

Kim and her husband Walter built the practice from the ground up, starting with nothing but a piece of vacant farm land and an old mobile home. Walter was an essential part of the practice until his death in early 2014. However, his legacy lives on, as "Latitude 36" would not have become a reality without him.

Among her many accomplishments, Kim served on the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Board for ten years having been appointed to that Board by the Governor of North Carolina.  She served as President of that Board for several years.

She served 10 years on the board of AAVSB, an international association of veterinary regulatory boards from across North America with affiliates from several continents, and a term as president. .

She still finds time to enjoy her own horses, goats, dogs, and cats on her farm near Walnut Cove.
