Home Euthanasia
One of the services we provide is euthanasia for your animal at your farm, barn,
or home. This service is available for dogs and cats, as well as for horses and other livestock.

You do not need to be an existing client to use this service. However, we highly recommend that you discuss all end-of-life care and euthanasia for your animal
with your regular veterinarian well in advance. It makes a difficult time a little
easier when you've thought through the process beforehand.

When you arrange a visit for home euthanasia, Dr. Gemeinhardt will discuss the situation with you and examine the animal. If she agrees that euthanasia is the best course, she will sedate the animal so that its final moments are peaceful and pain-free. This approach also gives you a few minutes quietly with your animal if you want.

Once the animal is deeply sedated and you've said your goodbyes, Dr. Gemeinhardt administers an overdose of anesthetic to stop the animal's heart. In most cases, the animal then slips peacefully away. Sometimes additional doses of anesthetic are needed, particularly in very sick animals whose hearts aren't pumping efficiently.

Dr. Gemeinhardt is available for home euthanasia during regular work hours
and on an emergency basis, but please note that an emergency fee will apply
for any unscheduled euthanasia.

Cremation is available in this area for small animals. If you would like your pet cremated, please call Central Carolina Pet Services at (336) 723-6500.
As hard as it can be to let go of
an animal you love, it may help to remember that euthanasia is one
of the kindest and most humane things we do for our animals.
